'Dig Out Your Soul' debuts at Number Five

Oasis scored their best US chart position in more than a decade with their new album 'Dig Out Your Soul'.

The band's latest effort debuted at Number Five on the US Billboard chart, selling 53,000 copies. It is the first time Oasis has cracked the top five since 1997's 'Be Here Now'.

'Dig Out Your Soul' faired even better on the Billboard Digital Sales chart, debuting at Number Two with 20,000 downloads sold.

Elsewhere on the chart, T.I. held steady at Number One, while Metallica's 'Death Magnetic' came in at Number Two. Rise Against took the Number Three spot with 'Appeal To Reason' and Jennifer Hudson hit Number Four with her new self-titled album.

Surely 53,000 copies out of 300 million people works out to be like a pathetic attempt, that's like the population of Macclesfield....

Cue deluded Oasis psycho obsessives soundedd, rubbersoul7 and possitivementalcase claiming that they've finally 'cracked' America. rofl.

I see there are some very constructive posts on here...Like it or not, Oasis is still the biggest British band out there.

Clearly the musical snobs on here can't accept that Oasis are still popular. The poplation is irrelevant, it is about sales and they were the 5th most popular this week.Music is all about opinions. Nobodys is right or wrong. Some idiots on here clearly can't grasp the that fact.

The Americans don't shake off their 'bland taste' stereotype by buying stuff like this... That's not a dig at them by the way, just the Oasis fans =)

Very true JamTart, music is all about opinions. DOYS has obviously done well on both sides of the pond so far and Oasis are still a relevant British band and will continue to sell albums, sell out gigs and boast a large fan base including myself. If you don't like Oasis, then don't listen to them simple as.

“Oasis psycho obsessives” – What?? I think you have me mixed up with someone else there pal. I have probably commented on no more than about 4 or 5 Oasis posts in my entire time on these message boards! If anyone’s deluded around here it certainly aint me. Don’t know where you get that from at all! I do like Oasis and am pleased that they have done well in the US charts but they probably wouldn’t even make my top 60 bands if I’m being honest. I agree with JamTart1874’s post though, it’s just my personal opinion.

rubbersoul7 - 'I have probably commented on no more than about 4 or 5 Oasis posts in my entire time on these message boards! 'You need to brush up on your maths, my dear boy. I took the liberty of checking your posting history and there were 25 comments attached to Oasis-related stories, hardly 4 or 5 is it?

They are what they are man if ya dont like them why read about them and spend the time to comment if you do like them superb. But at the end of the day critics alike who's to say whats good and bad its down to personal taste. I can here the keys tapping away in anger at all the muso's, critics and professional radiohead discussioneer,s the timing, drums, bass and whatever you want to say is shit. So make a change do better'yourself and dont take them so seriously. At the end of the day its the whingers which make them strong man they love tacking the piss.

My maths are more than adequate thank you. As nice as it was of you to go to the trouble of checking my previous posts I can tell you that the figure I mentioned was just a complete guess, I dont actually keep tabs on which stories I post on. Point is, I am not an Oasis psycho obsessive like you seem to think I am - quite the opposite in fact.

What a bunch of idiots, argueing over a story about a CD on a website. Go and start a band and do better if you think it's shit. When you get your album in the top 5 in the states you can log on and have something to talk about.

A_Dis

Oct 16, 2008

So, SonnyBlack, you've never thought an album is shit then? If you have, and you're commenting here, then presumably you've had a top 5 album in the States? You're not Jennifer Hudson, are you?

Oct 16, 2008

lol boys eh?...it seems to me A DIS that you are a RUBBERSOUL psycho obsessive....checking his posting history indeed! Do you also go through his bins at night?....tsssk ( does this mean i will turn into a A DIS/RUBBERSOUL stand off psycho obsessive now????

I do go through his bins and let me tell you there some sick shit going on in that boys head. The only reason I checked his posting history was cos I knew damn well he posted on virtually every Oasis article so I needed a stat to expose his LIE! haha.

N°5... not bad at all. Almost as good as the new Staind album!

Soundedd

Oct 16, 2008

Finally the yanks have found some taste, by the way Staind? is that that bald prick who sang that tune years ago with Fred Durst, there shit!

The sheer hatred of Oasis on here beggars belief. There are far worse bands out there. Anyone listened to 'In Rainbows'?

I bought it the day it came out, I think it's AMAZING, and I really really hope they come tour here. Not all Americans have an awful taste in music

ryansaffery

Now this is getting quite boring. An oasis article on NME.com and lots of negative comments. If you guys don't like oasis or nme for that matter, then go and check out other sites or just don't read the oasis articles. Oasis are the best band to have come out of the UK for a long long time, to say they are irrelevant is total rubbish. I cant wait for next summer and the UK tour, Oasis are fucking mega and will be around for a long time to come.

rockgeek

Oct 20, 2008

I'll read whatever article I fucking well like. I'll make whatever comment I fucking like.Bets band out the UK... hardly. Long time to come... what, like most bands?
