Fans slam Led Zeppelin plans to reunite without Plant

Plans to replace the singer have met with a hostile reception

Led Zeppelin fans have overwhelmingly slammed the band's plans to reunite without frontman Robert Plant.

The group's bassist John Paul Jones suggested Led Zeppelin will reform without their singer yesterday (October 28).

The bass player said he and guitarist Jimmy Page have been trying out singers for the role, prompted NME.COM users to leave comments on the site, with almost all of them blasting Jones and Page's plans.

"Does this story make anyone else feel sick?" wrote 'lukey45', while 'sgows' wrote, "Sacrilege, how can they do this?".

'Orangeboy' suggested that Plant was an irreplaceable singer. "How ridiculous," they wrote. "Plant's voice is half of what made Zep who they were. It simply isn't Led Zeppelin without him."

The majority of users slammed Jones and Page, without only a handful of posters leaving few positive comments.

"Yes! Get in!" wrote '20legend'. "Robert Plant shouldn't hold them back."

'zoso_02' claimed: "Led Zeppelin is basically Jimmy Page, not any of the other members. It may be different from Zeppelin with Robert Plant, but it will certainly be fantastic and ecstatically received."

In a football, if a player thinks he is bigger than the team then he doesn't deserve to play for it. No player is bigger than the club. So why is this any different? Plant has already said he doesn't want to do it so its him letting the side down not Page and Jones. I know its not for the same reason but 'Queen' have done ok with Paul Rodgers. I think its difficult for any old band to come back and do as well as they did before even if they are the original line-up. If people want Led Zeppelin they'll have to have it without Plant, and if you are a led zep fan then just support them, don't let one man balls it up.

I think it is selfish of Robert to not LET them tour without him. If the other three want to do it, why shoudln't they ?

I'm a massive Zep fan and as long as they do some new stuff touring without Plant doesn't bother me. Page and Plant toured without Jonsey several times and mainly did Zep stuff. I was always more into the music than the lyric anyway. Page, Jonesey and Bonham Jr. can't wait!

What everyone is forgetting is that someone suggested Myles Kennedy for the bill - Miles Kennedy is the next generation's best classic rock vocalist - if anyone can do the job he can!Bring it on home boys

We have all seen it before. Once a band looses the lead singer and tries to go on without them, it fails. the general public only know a song by the singer, so the lack of the front man looses their interest. Queen without Freddy, Maiden without Dickinson, hell even Genesis without Collins didn't work. If Oasis carried on without Liam, do you think it would have the same spark? If the other three Foo Fighters went under the same name with no Dave would you still buy a ticket? Find a new singer, write some new material, give it a new name and prove you still are great.

Page and Plant may have toured without Jones, but they never did it under the Led Zeppelin name because it just wasn't Led Zeppelin. Plant shouldn't be criticized for not wanting to/not being able to do it, he should be respected. The band was as good as it was because they were a sum of their collective parts. The more parts you take away, the worse it'll perform.

It's no different to touring as 'Led Zeppelin' without John Bonham...

why would it make anyone feel sick. plenty of bands have gone on the road without key member eg the jam and queen. the reason they r going on tour is because they want to and they enjoy playing live!

I've been a Led Zeppelin fan for 25 years. Fantastic band with a fantastic legacy worth protecting. Some may argue that touring on any terms taints that legacy. I disagree. It's their music, the fans want it, and they should be allowed to have fun with it. Besides, the reunion show was proof enough that they still have something worth sharing. However, without Plant, it's rubbish. Sad enough that Bonham cannot participate, BUT, as it's his son as a replacement, it... it just seems okay. He's family to each member. But, no Plant? That's as ridiculous as Queen with no Freddie Mercury. The Doors with no Jim Morrison. Alice in Chains without Layne Stayley. INXS without Michael Huthcence. If Fallout Boy replaced their singer, who gives a shit?! This is not the same thing. These are frontman of iconic stature, and who had a HUGE impact on the their band's sound and presence. Any attempt to do is laughable and should not be supported. The song will not remain the same.

Without Robert Plant, Led Zep will just become a tribute band. All the hits sung by someone else! Perhaps they might even turn up on the X-Factor. And I bet they would still charge £100 for the tickets despite not having the voice of Led Zep.........

This is mad. If Plant doesn't want to tour with Led Zeppelin and the others do just let them get on with it. I agree Plant is very hard to replace but Queen done it and at least the Fans who have yet to see Led Zeppelin still get a chance to see them do what they do best. They are all members of the band so if they feel they want to tour then go ahead boys!

Get Coverdale in there. Nothing better than seeing Zeppelin, minus Plant, replaced by Coverdale.

I don't really care much for Led Zepplin. But I can't imagine anyone else even attempting to sing Whole Lotta Love like Robert Plant did.

if jpj and page want to tour, then fine, just dont use the led zeppelin name. without bonham was bad enough in many ways but his son is an ideal replacement, without plant however, it is quite literally a tribute band. dont do it atall thats what i say, if they must, dont taint the good name of zep.

I don't see why not to be honest. Why should Robert Plant deny millions the chance to see these brilliant songs live. I'm 19, I wasn't around when Led Zeppelin were but theirs very few bands that have the magic that Led Zep do. I'd love to hear songs like Rock & Roll, Stairway to Heaven and Good Times Bad Times live, if Plant would rather tour with some country bird than possibly the greatest rock n roll band in history then thats his choice but it shouldn't stop Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones doing what they love. It does beg the question who the replacement should be. Not Jack White, it wouldn't work in my opinion, and definantly not Steven Tyler, I can't stand him!

personally I'm gutted that Plant wont be reforming but i still cant help but beg the question why? i honestly cannot imagine why he would like to see the dynasty he was instrumental in creating rise again without his intervention.you can replace a guitarist, bassist or drummer with another person.at the end of the day, instruments can be built to sound the same, the music can remain the same, but Plants voice or any lead singers voice for that matter is the piece of a group that are the eyes, they just cannot be changed or completely duplicated anyway. it didnt work for queen, i cant picture zeppelin being any different

10 years ago a record came out called "Walking into Clarksdale".I'm hearing that record nowdays & i really enjoy most of the songs.I didn't mind that the bass player was Charlie Jones & the drummer was Michael Lee... But i would have been hurt if the band name in the cover of that record was Led Zeppelin... Now i'm gonna go to a concert to enjoy Mr. Kennedy sing only if the band name is "plastic stukas" or something Keith Moon's son might think...

I'm against any band "re-uniting", even if all the members are still alive!! Nostalgia is revolting and tailor made for fools. Robert Plant is the ONLY ONE here who has any integrity AND a set of BALLS to walk away from TONS OF MONEY. He knows it's wrong and pointless, and so should all you deluded dweebs out there approving of this "reunion".

I've been a fan for thirty years and I think it's sad that a) Robert Planet doesn't want to tour with Page and Jones and b) Page and Jones would tour without him. It's not the same without Plant, like Queen isn't the same without Freddy Mercury.

simply put, led zeppelin are legends, but on the strength of a live performance id rather see myles kennedy with them anyway, check out summergirl by the mayfield four, or any of the alter bridge acoustic stuff for proof how much better a singer Myles actually is, only other person i could see doing it would be chris cornell and even thats unlikely

When Led Zep disbanded in 1980 follwoing the passing of John Bonham, the band issued a statement saying that "We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend, and the deep sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were."I song just doesnt remain the same without all surviving members, especially its howling legend of a frontman.
